Mid-Market PLM Deployment Challenges (TT)
10/31/2008
In terms of basic PLM implementations, mid-market and large companies face similar challenges involving comparable software requirements. Major differences, however, involve deployment and support. While large companies confront the challenge of scale and scope, mid-market firms face limited resources in terms of the size and expertise of the PLM support group, and in terms of budgets. In general, major issues arise as PLM functionality drives deeper into the greater detail in reconciling multiple views across disparate disciplines. Mid-market companies have limited resources to meet requirements that vary dramatically depending on the applications involved serving the different workgroups, which are not always well understood. Mid-market companies struggle when they pay more for implementation and customization than for the software licenses. Until software becomes as easy to deploy as AutoCAD managed by Excel, most mid-market companies face budget barriers in extending their PLM systems to target tactical efforts for workgroups.
